Koh Group awarded Thai SELECT Premium Status
The Koh Group awarded Thai SELECT Premium Status for all 12 restaurants.
29 Thai restaurants in the UK have been awarded with Thai Select Award to ensure quality of authentic Thai Cuisine. Koh Thai Tapas were among the few to receive the highest accolade of Thai SELECT Premium status.
On Thursday 21stJune Koh Thai were honoured and incredibly proud to announce that entire Koh Group have been awarded Thai Select Premium status for all restaurants. Thai Premium Select represents a seal of approval akin to the Michelin Star for Thai Cuisine, the highest accolade in Thailand’s culinary world & is representative of the hard work, commitment and dedication of our elite chef teams & drive of our CEO, Andy Lennox, our operations & restaurant teams.
“We have been working towards this goal for the past 10 years and so today represents a monumental moment in Koh’s History- thank you to everyone who has helped us on this journey.” Said Andy.
The Department of International Trade Promotion, Thai Ministry of Commence held the Thai Select Award Presentation Ceremony on 21st June 2018 at the reception of Thailand Showcase, Kitchen of Thailand at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. H.E. Mr. Sontirat Sontijirawong, Ministry of Commerce was the chairman of the ceremony and presented the Thai Select Certificates to 29 Thai restaurants that have been approved this time consisting of 16 Thai Select Premium and 13 Thai Select. There were top executives from Ministry of Commerce in attendance including Mrs. Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat, Director General of Department of International Trade Promotion, Mrs. Kulanee Issadisai, Director General of Department of Business Developmentand honorary guests including Thai Restaurants, Major UK Businesses and Thai Suppliers.
The Ministry of Commerce, H.E. Mr. Sontirat Sontijirawong said, “Food is one of the things that we are most proud of. The Royal Thai Government pays close attention to the Food Service industry. Initiating projects with Upstream industries, which refers to cultivation, towards Midstream industries in production and Downstream industries which represents marketing. The whole process is linked to optimize the supply chain of the agricultural industry in Thailand. As mentioned, the Thai government has established goals and set strategies under “The Kitchen of the world” Policy in order to enhance the capability of Thai businessmen and scale up Thailand’s ranking in the World to become the 10th largest exporter and food service provider in 2024”.
H.E. Mr. Sontirat Sontijirawongstressed the importance of food and agriculture to Thailand saying, “The country has successfully positioned itself as the “Kitchen of the World”; ranked at no. 12 globally and no. 3 in Asia in year 2017. The Government is reviving the “Kitchen of the World” campaign with the aim of becoming a major food exporter in the world. The most important task of the Kitchen of the World strategy is to ensure that Thai food products do focus on quality, safety and sustainability. For this reason, today’s event has been organized to showcase the potential of Thailand’s top industrial sector among food services. Without reservation, I am confident that Thailand’s manufacturers and exporters are competent and ready to respond to the demands of the UK market.”
H.E. Mr. Sontirat Sontijirawong also addressed the importance of the “Thai Select scheme” to certify and promote authentic Thai cuisine around the world and Thai food products. This scheme helps increase the recognition of qualityThai restaurants, and to encourage Thai restaurants to raise their excellent qualities while maintaining their authenticity. At present, a total of 106 Thai restaurants in the UK from 1,327 businesses around the world have been certified by Thai SELECT as of December 2017.
So, anywhere you travel, look for the stamp of approval “Thai SELECT”. It assures you that delicious Thai cuisine is being served to a high standard. It’s not just a meal; it’s a journey into Thai culture.

After the Award Ceremony on Thursday, Chef Jane Alty from The Begging Bowl restaurant (which is one of the Thai Select restaurants) and Mr. Luke Farrell from the Ryewater Nursaries in Dorset demonstrated how to make Miang with smoked eel. Other activities included Thai Food and Thai Beverages tasting and a Thai products showcase from Singha Beer, Chang Beer, Monsoon Valley Wine and Thailand Trust Mark Products including Kanokwan Curry Paste, Suree Coconut Milk, Royal Umbrella Rice and Tao Kae Noi Seaweed and also business networking between Thai Businessmen and UK businesses.
