On 7th December we celebrated our 8th BIRTHDAY!

If you cast your mind back nearly a decade, would you remember the launch of our original, Koh Boscombe, back in 2009? Or the launch of our Flagship in Bournemouth back in 2011 – now doubled in size? #throwbackthursday

Much has evolved, however, you will still find many of the same faces. Whether that’s our CEO Andy, or Sony and Thor, – who still run all of our kitchens and create all of our authentic new dishes, or Jon, Koh’s unsung hero and handy-man, still working away across all of our sites. Whilst much has changed, now with a total of 12 sites, much has remained the same.

And that is our ethos for achieving the Complete Dining Experience, looking after our staff like family and cooking our food fresh and on-site, each and every day. (Yes, its fresh, not made in an off-site kitchen like many restaurants have recently opted for. And not made in our event-prop-laden Warehouse like many rumours suggest… Jon can vouch for that one! Who started that rumour anyway??)

Koh’s success continues to be recognised

Whilst we have grown at significant speed in the last few years, we are very proud to have continued our winning ways with recognition for a number of new awards. It shows that, despite our increasing workload, we must be doing something right! Here are a few of our proudest moments in the past 12 months:

  • Casual Dining Awards finalists for Multiple Casual Dining Restaurant of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year and Restaurant Brand of the Year
  • Bournemouth Tourism Award winner for Specialist Dining Experience Award and finalists for Family Eating Experience and World Cuisine Award
  • Eat Out Awards finalists for Brand of the Year and Social Media Campaign
  • Caterer Awards’ Top 10 Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2017

We added two new sites to our ever-growing Koh empire

On the same date in December 2016, we opened Koh Lymington: our beeee-autiful port town site boasting bags of character and a cosy hidden garden.

We also returned our attention to our Flagship and gave our famous ‘Koh Lounge on the beach’ a permanent home adjoining the restaurant, which opened its doors in March 2017. Pop in on a Saturday night to see it in full swing with our DJ dropping his set and cocktails flowing. Oh and the canapés were so popular, we now offer our full menu in there too! What’s not to love!?

2017 saw a rebrand for Koh

Our website got a fresh lick of paint, with the addition of our new quick and easy online booking system.

Our menus got a modern makeover, yet they still remain true to Koh’s roots. With this, we added some delicious new dishes to our menu, crafted by Head Chef, Thor.

We ran our “best ever” (in the words of Andy) Christmas Marketing campaign, Christmas Done Differently.

New and exciting opportunities arose

We have promoted more than ten managers to General and Ops Managers, with plenty of opportunities opening up in their place.

We also popped the champagne after many early-hours finishes, as we completed a deal with our awesome investors, Alcuin, to help us continue on our journey of evolution with Andy.

Where have we been this year?

We had an amazing weekend during the summer setting up on Sandbanks beach in the glorious sun (phew!) at the Beach Polo, as well as several other smaller events throughout the year, such as The Purbeck Film Festival Gala Dinner at the Hilton, our secret cinema in Lounge, some private & corporate catering and a sprinkling of community events such as Armed Forces Day.

In November, we attended National Thai Day and cooked for the Thai Ambassador in the heart of London, which was a very special achievement for Koh.

Our very own Andy and Thor started #KohGlobal as they ventured off to Thailand for the Gracious Hospitality and Tourism International Conference, where they had the opportunity to meet highly talented chefs and hospitality managers from across the globe.


Well, what a year it has been in our #WorldofKoh. And here’s a little secret… There will be plenty more to come in 2018. #ComingToaTownNearYou
